A Combi-specific external control unit (sold separately) is required to access all four modes and to regulate temperature and humidity independently.
Four sauna session modes - one heater handles all of them
The Virta Combi's integrated steamer operates independently from the sauna heater side. This independence is what enables the four session modes. In traditional sauna mode, the heater runs and water is poured manually onto the stones for loyly steam - the Combi steamer is off. In steam sauna mode, the steamer runs and produces continuous controlled humidity while the heater maintains temperature - the Combi control regulates both independently. In herbal sauna mode, aromatic herb bags are placed on the stainless steel grate holder on top of the heater, and the rising heat releases their scent through the sauna air as the session progresses. In fragrance sauna mode, sauna essential oil liquids are placed in the integrated soapstone cup, which heats gradually and releases fragrance continuously without any oil ever contacting the heating elements directly - protecting the elements from corrosive oil contact that would void the warranty in any standard heater.
Stone space separated from heating elements - longer element life, faster preheat
The HL110SA uses the same separated stone space design as the Virta HL60E: the stone compartment extends down the inner sides of the heater surrounding the element assembly rather than pressing directly against it. This separation protects the elements from direct water contact during loyly steam, keeps element surface temperatures lower, and produces faster preheat times because heat distributes through the stone mass by convection rather than requiring direct conduction through stone-to-element contact. If an element needs replacing, the entire element module pulls out through the front maintenance hatch without moving a single stone. The HL110SA holds 150 lbs of AC3020 stones (4 boxes, 10-15 cm) - significantly more than the 6kW Virta HL60E's 110 lbs - which produces the softer, more sustained heat and steam quality that larger stone mass enables.
5-litre integrated steamer - automatic or manual water filling
The Virta Combi's integrated steamer includes a 5-litre (1.32-gallon) water reservoir that can be filled in two ways. Manual filling uses a standard pour method. Automatic filling connects the reservoir directly to a cold water supply line - the Combi control manages water intake automatically to maintain reservoir level during the session without any intervention. For permanent sauna installations where a cold water supply line can be run to the heater position, automatic filling is the more practical long-term option. For installations where plumbing the heater is not possible, manual filling is equally effective. Both filling methods produce the same steam quality and session experience.
Combi-specific control required - CX30C or FX30C only
The HL110SA requires a Combi-specific external control unit that can regulate both the heater and the steamer independently. Standard Xenio CX30 or Fenix FX30 controls (which manage only the heater side) are not compatible and will not activate the steamer functions. The compatible controls for the 240V/1-phase HL110SA are: Xenio CX30C-U1-XW (WiFi, single-phase) or Fenix FX30C-U1-XC (WiFi, single-phase). The control unit connects via a power unit installed outside the sauna room in a dry location. Selecting the wrong control is the most common installation mistake on the Virta Combi - the Combi-specific models are clearly marked with the C designation in the model name.

Virta HL60E vs Virta Combi HL110SA - heater only vs heater plus steamer
Both heaters use the separated stone space design, front maintenance hatch, and identical element module accessibility. The Virta HL60E (6kW) is a heater only: it heats the sauna room and produces loyly steam when water is poured manually on the stones. It requires a standard Xenio CX30 or Fenix FX30 control. The Virta Combi HL110SA (10.5kW) adds an integrated steamer, four session modes, a fragrance cup, and a herb bag grate. It requires a Combi-specific CX30C or FX30C control and two 30A circuit breakers. If a traditional sauna without steam generation is the goal, the Virta HL60E (or the KIP/The Wall series) is the right choice. If steam sauna, herbal, and fragrance sessions in the same room as a traditional Finnish sauna are wanted, the Virta Combi is the only appropriate option.
Two standard 2-pole 30A breakers and 10 AWG wire are required for the HL110SA. Do not connect to GFI/GFCI breakers. Only Harvia AC3020 stones (10-15 cm) should be used - 4 boxes required, sold separately. The Combi control (CX30C-U1-XW or FX30C-U1-XC) must be purchased separately - standard CX30 controls will not activate the steamer.

Warranty
2-year consumer warranty / 1-year commercial warranty
The Harvia Virta Combi HL110SA is covered by a 2-year limited warranty for consumer (residential) use and a 1-year limited warranty for commercial use from the date of purchase. The warranty covers the heater, steamer, and all included components including heating elements, contactors, and the water reservoir against defects in manufacturing and materials. Heating elements are covered on first use only and are thereafter considered consumable parts. The warranty is void if: the heater is connected to a GFI/GFCI breaker, incorrect or insufficient stones are used (must be Harvia AC3020, 10-15 cm, 4 boxes minimum), essential oils are poured directly on stones or elements (use the soapstone fragrance cup only), or the heater is improperly installed.
