Built-in controls at the base - two dials, full function
The built-in control panel of the KIP45B consists of two rotary dials mounted at the bottom of the heater body. The left dial is the thermostat - it sets the target temperature within the room. The right dial is the timer and on/off control - it runs the heater immediately for up to 60 minutes, or it can be set for a delayed start of up to 8 hours in advance, so the sauna is at temperature when it is needed. There is no external control unit to purchase, no data cable to run, no WiFi to set up, and no app required. The control panel can be repositioned from the default front-facing orientation to a right-side orientation, giving added flexibility when the heater is installed in a corner or against a wall where front-access to the controls is awkward.
Dual-wall construction - exterior stays cool, mounts directly to wood
The outer shell of the KIP45B is a dual-wall stainless steel construction: there is an air gap between the inner heating chamber and the outer surface, which means the exterior of the heater stays cool to the touch during operation. This dual-wall design is what makes direct wall mounting safe - the heater can be mounted on a wooden sauna wall without requiring a protective heat shield behind it. The stainless steel outer casing is polished, corrosion-resistant, and designed for the permanent moisture and heat environment of a sauna room. A protective stone grill is fitted over the stone cavity to prevent stones from falling and to provide a safety barrier around the exposed stone surface.
Direct rock-to-element contact - efficient heat, reliable loyly
In the KIP45B, the sauna stones sit in direct contact with the heating elements throughout the cavity. Heat transfers directly from the elements to the stones without an intermediate air gap, which means the stones heat evenly and efficiently throughout and the heater reaches operating temperature quickly for a room of its rated size. When water is poured over the stones for loyly steam, the stones produce the sharp, immediate steam that direct rock-to-element contact enables - the contact area is large and the stone temperature is consistent across the cavity. One box of Harvia AC3000 stones (5-10 cm, approximately 44 lbs) is included in this package and is sufficient for the KIP45B's 44-lb stone capacity.

KIP series in context
KIP or Virta - which is right for your sauna?
The KIP45B is the right choice when: the sauna room is between 100 and 211 cubic feet, simple manual controls are preferred over digital or app control, and the budget and installation simplicity of a self-contained heater is the priority. The Harvia Virta series is the right choice when: the room is larger (up to 635 cu ft at 10.5kW), digital or remote control is wanted, or the heater needs to be connected to a Xenio or Fenix control unit that also manages lighting, ventilation fans, and scheduling via the MyHarvia app. Both are made in Finland to the same material and quality standards - the difference is in the control system and the installation complexity, not the heat quality.
The KIP45B requires a standard 2-pole 20A breaker and 10 AWG wire. Do not connect to a GFI or GFCI breaker - nuisance tripping will occur and warranty on internal components will be voided. Only Harvia AC3000 stones (5-10 cm) should be used. Using other stones or insufficient stone quantity voids the warranty. Only Harvia essential oils, properly diluted in water, may be added to the water used for loyly steam - do not pour oils directly on the stones or elements.

2-year consumer warranty / 1-year commercial warranty
The Harvia KIP45B is covered by a 2-year limited warranty for consumer (residential) use and a 1-year limited warranty for commercial use from the date of purchase. The warranty covers defects in manufacturing and materials including heating elements, thermostat, and all internal components. Heating elements are serviceable and replacements are available. The warranty is void if: the heater is connected to a GFI/GFCI breaker (standard 2-pole breaker required), incorrect or insufficient stones are used (must be Harvia AC3000, 5-10 cm), essential oils are poured directly on stones or elements, or the heater is improperly installed.
