Stone-primary heat - ancient wisdom, modern precision
HUUM builds the HIVE Wood 13 from as little metal as possible so that heat comes mainly from the stones. This is the philosophy stated directly on HUUM's own product page and it permeates every design decision in the HIVE Wood platform. The stainless steel frame exists to hold the stone mass in the correct position relative to the fire. The stones absorb the fire's energy and release it as the soft, humid, negative-ion-rich heat that has characterised traditional Finnish sauna bathing for centuries. HUUM's description of the outcome: maximize the good negative ions from the stones, as in traditional saunas, and keep the positive ions from the metal at a minimum. The result is a gentle, long-lasting heat and excellent steam capability - qualities that a heater dominated by hot metal surfaces cannot replicate.
5mm stainless steel flame tamer and natural oil finish
The flame tamer is the component of a wood-burning sauna stove exposed to the most direct, sustained flame contact over years of operation. HUUM addresses this directly in their design brief: the most sensitive component of the wood-fired stove, the flame tamer, is made of 5mm thick stainless steel and is therefore exceptionally durable. At 5mm this is significantly more robust than typical flame tamer construction and is a key long-term durability advantage of the HIVE Wood platform. The stove body is treated only with natural oils - no paint, no synthetic coatings - a deliberate material choice that keeps the finish of the stove in keeping with its philosophy of minimal processing and natural materials. The HIVE Wood 13's open stone cage holds 199 lbs (90 kg) of rounded sauna stones (5-10 cm diameter, 6 x 33-lb boxes, sold separately). The large exposed stone surface provides consistent heat distribution and excellent steam production - the design maximizes stone contact with the sauna air and makes every ladle of water count. The optional HUUM Cage accessory (sold separately) mounts on top of the stove and wraps additional stones around the chimney pipe above the stone bed - adding stone mass and extending the visual presence of the stone column upward. Up to three HUUM Cages can be stacked for a dramatic stacked-stone aesthetic. The optional HUUM WaterEx accessory (sold separately) attaches to the chimney pipe to heat bathwater simultaneously with the sauna.

HUUM's design philosophy for the HIVE Wood 13 is stated plainly: HUUM heaters are built using very little metal so that the heat comes mainly from the stones and very little from the metal. 5mm flame tamer - the most durable component in the HIVE Wood
HUUM built the HIVE Wood 13's flame tamer from 5mm (0.20 in) thick stainless steel because it is the most sensitive component of the wood-fired stove. At 5mm, this is significantly more robust than the flame tamers found in comparable stoves at this price point, and significantly more durable than the 3mm sides of the stove body. The flame tamer sits directly above the firebox, exposed to sustained high-temperature flame contact across every session of use. A thicker flame tamer lasts longer between replacements, performs more consistently over the stove's service life, and is a direct indicator of the material quality standard applied to the HIVE Wood platform.
Natural oils only - no paint, no chemicals
The HIVE Wood 13's stainless steel surfaces are treated only with natural oils. There is no paint, no powder coat, no synthetic surface treatment of any kind on the stove body. This is a deliberate material philosophy consistent with the HIVE Wood's broader approach of keeping the materials in the sauna environment as natural as possible. The stainless steel surface - naturally corrosion-resistant and heat-durable - does not need paint for protection. The natural oil treatment maintains the appearance of the stainless steel and is consistent with the material philosophy that extends from the stone-primary heat design to the surface finishing of every component.
199 lbs of stones - consistent heat and excellent steam
HUUM's own description of the 199-lb stone capacity: its large number of exposed stones provides long-lasting heat and better steam capability. For a 13kW stove in a 212-459 cu ft room, the stone mass is proportionally generous - the stones accumulate heat throughout the fire and continue releasing it steadily after the fire dies down. The open stone cage design exposes the maximum stone surface area to the sauna air and to the bather's ladle of water - every part of the exposed stone mass can receive water and produce steam. The large glass furnace door allows the bather to watch the fire throughout the session, adding the visual warmth of the flames to the sauna atmosphere.
HUUM Cage - add stones around the chimney
The optional HUUM Cage HSTV (sold separately) mounts on top of the HIVE Wood 13 and wraps additional sauna stones around the chimney pipe extending above the stove. This extends the stone mass upward along the chimney and creates a stacked-stone visual effect above the stove body. Up to three HUUM Cages can be stacked on top of each other for a taller stone column. The chimney heat that would otherwise be lost to the flue passes through the stone-filled cage, transferring additional thermal energy into the stones. The optional HUUM WaterEx accessory clips onto the chimney pipe to heat bathwater simultaneously with the sauna session using the chimney's heat output.

Warranty
5-year limited warranty
The HUUM HIVE Wood 13 carries HUUM's 5-year limited warranty from the date of purchase. The warranty covers defects in manufacturing and materials under normal use and maintenance conditions. The warranty does not cover damage caused by improper installation, failure to follow the installation and operating guidelines in the manual, use of unsuitable sauna stones (decorative stones in particular must not be used as they can break under heat), operating without the required stone load, or chimney-related damage from inadequate maintenance. Removing the stones once per year for inspection, replacing any broken stones or stones with calcium or other deposits, and re-inserting stones carefully are required maintenance tasks. A licensed chimney professional is recommended for all flue installation and regular chimney sweep maintenance. Proof of purchase from an authorized HUUM dealer is required for warranty claims.
