Hoyer HPL450 Patient Lift: Safe, Reliable Full-Body Transfers

Some lifts are built for hospitals, others for the spare bedroom. Joerns designed the Hoyer HPL450 to work in both. This mid-range passive lift carries patients up to 450 lbs, yet keeps a compact footprint and a lightweight frame, so it moves easily between a nursing home ward and a family home.

Choose how the base opens: the HPL450-EL widens its legs electrically at the touch of a button, while the HPL450-ML uses a foot pedal positioned so the caregiver's foot stays level, with no bending or twisting. Either way, the lift itself raises and lowers the patient by power, with two batteries and an off-board charger so a fresh battery is always ready.

Easy to Steer, Easy to Control

An oversized push handle sits exactly where a caregiver reaches, making the lift simple to steer across floors and into tight corners. The spreader bar travels from 22.2" to 73.5", covering low chairs, commodes, wheelchairs, and high beds. The hand control keeps lifting smooth and gentle, and if it ever fails, backup raise and lower buttons on the control box keep the transfer going.

Hoyer HPL450 Base Options

The HPL450 comes with one of two bases. Both share the same powered lifting, 450 lb capacity, and 6-point cradle.

Electric Leg (HPL450-EL)

  • Operation: An electric motor opens and closes the legs at the touch of a button.
  • Convenience: The caregiver never bends or forces the legs apart.
  • Power Source: Two batteries with an off-board charging stand, so one charges while the other works.
  • Safety Features: Backup controls on the control box, an emergency stop, and a manual lowering device.

Manual Leg (HPL450-ML)

  • Operation: A foot pedal widens the base, placed so the caregiver's foot stays level.
  • Weight: 92.0 lbs in total, compared with 92.5 lbs for the powered base.
  • Maintenance: The base itself needs no charging or electrical upkeep.
  • Cost: The lower-priced of the two bases.

Warranty length

Joerns covers the lift for one year from the date the original owner buys it. Coverage includes the lifter structure (base, mast, boom, and suspension cradle) and the electronic control box and actuator.

Non-durable components

Rubber parts, plastic parts, painted surfaces, batteries, hand pendants, and casters wear with normal use and are covered for 90 days from the date of purchase.

Exclusions

Damage caused by use in unsuitable environmental conditions or failure to maintain the product in accordance with user and service instructions is not covered. Any alteration, modification, or repair unless performed by or authorized in writing by Joerns Healthcare will void this warranty.

Scope

The warranty applies in the USA and Canada and extends only to the original purchaser.

FAQ

What is the difference between the HPL450-EL and the HPL450-ML?
Both are the same powered HPL450 lift with a 450 lb safe working load. The HPL450-EL opens and closes its legs electrically at the touch of a button. The HPL450-ML opens its legs with a foot pedal and does not need power for the base.
Can I lower the patient if the power fails?
Yes. A manual lowering device on the actuator lowers the patient slowly in an electrical failure. If the hand control stops working, raise and lower buttons on the control box can operate the lift, and the red emergency stop button cuts all power.
How long does the battery take to charge?
About four hours. The HPL450 comes with two batteries and an off-board charger, so one can charge while the other is in use. A low-battery alarm sounds when recharging is needed.
Will the lift fit under my bed and through my doorways?
The legs are 4.0" high with 0.6" of ground clearance, and the legs close to 25.0" wide. Measure the clearance under your bed and your doorway width before ordering.

Due to hygiene and health regulations, all mattress and bed sales are final and non-returnable once the product has been delivered or opened.

Patient Lifts:

Restock fees will be deducted in amountsranging of 25% of the value of the item being returned.

IBIS Wheelchair to Car Lift

The IBIS wheelchair to car lift was a game changer for us. My husband has been in a wheelchair for more than 40 years and we have never seen anything like this in the US and had no idea such a lift exist existed.

My guy is hemiplegic and usually able to stand pivot into the car but he broke his femur in November 2025 and had to be non-weight bearing for 3 months. He lost so much strength and ability that he could no longer do any kind of safe transfer.

Our friend found the IBIS wheelchair to car lift online and we decided to take the risk. It was worth every penny and more. Within a day of its arrival we were mobile and in and out of the car again. It is very manageable for me to operate and in our 60’s we are grateful for anything that lightens our load.
