The Harvia 50 is a 40kW wood-burning sauna stove for rooms from 706 to 1,766 cubic feet - Harvia's highest-output single-body wood stove and one of the most powerful sauna heaters in commercial production. Harvia describes the 50 as the king of public saunas: designed specifically for situations where the room is large, the group is many, and the heat must be consistent and sustained. Saunainter.com describes the intended use directly: the army, camping grounds, congregations. At 40kW with 264 lbs of AC3020 stones (6 boxes, 10-15 cm, sold separately), the Harvia 50 heats even the largest sauna rooms evenly and holds that heat long after the fire has burned down. The stainless steel front and top with black painted sides follow the Pro Series finish - easy to clean and durable under continuous use. The glass hatch faces into the sauna room and can have its opening direction reversed for installation flexibility. Separate service hatches at the flue openings simplify maintenance. A large ash box handles the output of an extended high-volume fire. Adjustable legs allow precise levelling. Flue: 115mm (4.5") European standard - a 6" North American adapter is required and sold separately. Pallet delivery - scheduled freight appointment required. CE and EAC certified. Made in Finland by Harvia.
40kW for 706 to 1,766 cu ft - the king of public saunas
Harvia's own description of the 50 is unambiguous: it is the king of public saunas when you need a stove for real big groups. The huge amount of stones release heat evenly into the biggest of spaces. At 40kW, the 50 is not positioned for home installations - it is built for applications where a residential heater would be completely inadequate: a very large lodge or camp sauna serving dozens of people per session, a military facility sauna room, a public sauna at a camp, congregation, or resort where the room is measured in the hundreds or even a thousand-plus cubic feet and the fire needs to run for hours. The 264-lb stone load accumulates heat over the full length of the fire and holds it in the stone mass long after the fire has burned down - essential for a session where reloading the fire is not always practical and the heat must sustain itself.
Service hatches at flue openings, reversible glass hatch, large ash box
The Harvia 50 is designed for commercial and institutional settings where maintenance matters as much as performance. Separate service hatches at the flue openings allow the flue connections to be accessed and cleaned without disassembling any part of the stove body. The glass hatch handedness is reversible - the door can be swapped to open in either direction during installation, improving access and safety in use for the specific room layout. The large ash box handles the volume of ash produced by a 40kW stove burning through extended sessions, and can be emptied without interrupting the fire. Adjustable legs allow the 428-lb stove to be levelled on any floor surface. These features are Harvia's direct acknowledgment that the 50 is a working stove in a working facility, not a weekend cottage heater.
Stainless steel front and top - consistent with the Pro Series standard
The Harvia 50 uses the same Pro Series finish as the PRO 20, PRO 36, and other Pro platform stoves: stainless steel on the front and top, black painted steel on the sides. Harvia's own description of the Pro heater finish applies here: the front and top are made of stainless steel, which is easy to keep clean. The sides of the heater are painted black and the fire that roams behind the glass hatch illuminates and creates a cozy atmosphere in the sauna. For a public or institutional sauna where the stove is in use daily and the finish is subject to handling and incidental contact, the stainless steel surfaces on the most-handled faces are the practical choice. The 115mm flue with top or back connection accommodates different chimney routing configurations. A licensed chimney professional is required for all flue installations at this output level.

ℹ️ Harvia 50 vs PRO 36 vs Legend 300 - large and very large sauna stove selection. PRO 36 WKPR36M: 31kW, 494-1,271 cu ft, 132 lbs stones (3 boxes AC3020), 19.69" clearances all sides (reduces to 4.7" with WL550 sheath). The right choice for large home saunas, lodge saunas, and commercial applications in the 494-1,271 cu ft range. Legend 300 WKLE36M: 23.5kW, 494-989 cu ft, 573 lbs stones (13 boxes AC3020) - for buyers where maximum stone mass and the longest sustained heat after the fire are the priority over raw output. Harvia 50 WK500 (this listing): 40kW, 706-1,766 cu ft, 264 lbs stones (6 boxes AC3020), 428 lbs, designed specifically for public, institutional, and very large group applications. Choose the Harvia 50 when the room is in the 706-1,766 cu ft range, the group is very large, and the application is public or institutional - army, camp, congregation, or large resort sauna - where no other configuration in the Harvia lineup delivers the required output.

Why the Harvia 50 stands out
40kW - the highest output in the Harvia wood stove lineup
At 40kW, the Harvia 50 delivers more than any other single-body Harvia wood stove. The PRO 36 delivers 31kW. The Legend 300 delivers 23.5kW. The Harvia 50 at 40kW is in a different output class from anything else in the Harvia lineup - built for sauna rooms that are simply too large for any other Harvia stove to heat adequately. The 706-1,766 cu ft range is the range of very large institutional or commercial sauna rooms: a room over 700 cu ft with a ceiling at the required minimum 6.56 ft height is already a large commercial facility sauna. A room at 1,766 cu ft is the size of a substantial lodge or public bath sauna. Only the Harvia 50 is built for both ends of this range.
264 lbs of stones - even heat in the biggest spaces
Harvia's own description is direct: the huge amount of stones release heat evenly into the biggest of spaces. At 264 lbs (6 boxes AC3020), the stone load is substantial - the same weight as the Legend 300 Duo's stone capacity, in a stove that also delivers 40kW of direct heat output. The large stone mass accumulates heat throughout the fire, distributes it evenly into a room up to 1,766 cu ft, and holds the temperature steady long after the fire has burned down. For a large group bathing session where the fire cannot be continuously attended, the stone thermal mass is what sustains the session. Steam is abundant and consistent because there is simply a large amount of heated stone mass to draw from.
Service hatches at flue openings - institutional maintenance design
The Harvia 50 includes separate service hatches at the flue openings. In a residential stove, flue access for cleaning and maintenance typically requires either removing the stove or a more involved disassembly process. In the 50, the service hatches provide direct access to the flue connections without disturbing the stove installation. For a public or institutional sauna that runs daily and requires regular chimney and flue inspection and cleaning, this is a meaningful operational advantage. The large ash box is similarly sized for the output - it holds enough ash from an extended high-volume fire to not require emptying mid-session.
Reversible glass hatch - adapts to any room layout
The glass hatch on the Harvia 50 has reversible handedness - the door can be set to open left or right during installation to suit the approach direction and room layout. In a large sauna room with fixed bench configurations and a specific traffic flow, the ability to set the hatch direction at installation is an important safety and usability detail. The glass hatch allows the fire to illuminate the sauna room throughout the session - consistent with the Pro Series design approach across the Harvia lineup. Adjustable legs allow the 428-lb stove to be precisely levelled during installation on any floor surface and chimney height condition.
Stainless steel front and top - Pro Series finish
The Harvia 50 uses the same stainless steel front and top as the PRO 20, PRO 36, and other Pro platform stoves. Stainless steel resists heat discolouration, cleans easily, and holds up to the repeated handling of a stove in daily public use - wood loading, ash removal, and general proximity contact in a busy facility. The black painted sides provide the classic Pro Series aesthetic. In a public or institutional sauna where the stove is in active use by many different users and the appearance and cleanliness of the facility reflect on the operator, the stainless surfaces on the most visible and most handled faces are the practical specification choice.
The Harvia 50 in context - public sauna heritage
The Harvia 50's intended use is stated plainly by the manufacturer: the army, camping grounds, congregations. These are not home sauna applications. The Harvia 50 is for sauna rooms that serve dozens of people per session across multiple rounds of bathing, where the stove must perform reliably session after session without failure, and where the heat must reach every corner of a room that would be described as a large hall by residential standards. In Harvia's full wood stove lineup, the 50 is the terminal point: the most output, the largest room range, and the most explicitly public and institutional design brief of any stove they produce. Harvia 50 vs PRO 36 vs Legend 300 - large sauna stove output guide
Harvia 50 vs PRO 36 vs Legend 300 - selecting the right stove for very large sauna rooms
Three Harvia wood stoves serve the upper end of the room size range. Legend 300 WKLE36M: 23.5kW, 494-989 cu ft, 573 lbs stones (13 boxes AC3020). Maximum stone mass for the longest sustained heat after the fire. Right for large private saunas where stone mass and steam duration are the priority. PRO 36 WKPR36M: 31kW, 494-1,271 cu ft, 132 lbs stones (3 boxes AC3020), 154.3 lbs net weight, 19.69" clearances all sides (4.7" with WL550 sheath). Right for large lodge, camp, and commercial saunas in the 494-1,271 cu ft range where 31kW of Pro Series output is the specification. Harvia 50 WK500 (this listing): 40kW, 706-1,766 cu ft, 264 lbs stones (6 boxes AC3020), 428 lbs net weight, designed explicitly for public and institutional use. Right when the room is in the 706-1,766 cu ft range, the group is very large, and the application is institutional - army, camp, congregation, or resort. The Harvia 50 is not a larger version of the PRO 36 for home use - it is a categorically different product built for a categorically different application. If the room is below 706 cu ft, the PRO 36 or Legend 300 is the right choice. If the room is in the 706-1,766 cu ft range and the use is public or institutional, the Harvia 50 is the purpose-built specification.
Manuals and Documents
