How do oxygen molecules get 400% deeper into tissues with Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy?
Under increased atmospheric pressure, oxygen molecules compress and decrease in size, allowing them to squeeze through constricted blood vessels, inflamed tissue, cross the blood-brain barrier, and enter lymph nodes, cerebrospinal fluid, and the musculoskeletal system. This is analogous to CO2 dissolving into soda under pressure - the molecules shrink enough to dissolve into the liquid. When you open a soda can the pressure is released, CO2 expands and you see the fizz. The same happens to oxygen molecules under hyperbaric pressure: they dissolve into the blood plasma and are delivered to tissues where circulation is diminished. Oxygen is the final electron acceptor in the Electron Transport Chain where all ATP is produced. Without oxygen we cannot make energy for the brain, organs, or any tissue.
