Lying in bed for long hours puts steady pressure on the same areas of the body, while trapped heat and moisture build up against the skin. Over time this can lead to skin breakdown and makes daily care harder. A standard mattress is not built to deal with any of these problems.

The ObboMed OB-1600 UtilityAir is a medical-grade air mattress made for pressure ulcer prevention, wound care, respiratory support and all-around bedside comfort. It brings three therapies together in a single unit: alternating pressure, comfort-focused low air loss and 15° self-lateral rotation. It is designed for hospitals, long-term care facilities and caregiving at home.

Triple Pressure Relief Therapy

Advanced Alternating Pressure: Air moves through the mattress in timed cycles so no single area carries constant pressure. This steady redistribution helps prevent and manage Stage 1 to 4 pressure ulcers, supports blood flow and helps tissue recover for patients who spend long hours in bed.

High-Volume Low Air Loss: A 15 LPM airflow pulls heat and moisture away from beneath the body, keeping the skin surface cool and dry. This helps guard against skin maceration, irritation and infection, and makes care safer and easier.

15° Self-Lateral Rotation: Special air cells inflate and deflate to create a gentle 15° wave-like motion that supports repositioning and breathing, redistributes pressure, improves circulation and helps the patient sleep better.

  • Specially designed 15-degree self-lateral rotation utilizing special air cells: the air cells continuously deflate and inflate, giving the user a regular wave and a soft self-lateral rotation through alternating pressure. This shifts body weight off pressure points, improves circulation, supports better sleep and helps prevent bedsores.
  • Sinking & Centralization Design: the mattress surface sinks to form a soft, 5-inch deep barrier that keeps the patient safely centered during pressure shifts and 15° rotations, while still leaving easy access for caregivers.

Fowler & Seating

When the head of the bed is raised, the Fowler function adds extra support in the seat and torso sections of the mattress to prevent the patient from "bottoming out." This helps hold a proper seated posture and lowers the risk of pressure injuries while sitting up.

Dynamic Low Air Loss

Located beneath the cover layer, the dynamic low air loss (LAL) system delivers 15 liters per minute of airflow. It removes moisture and controls heat around the patient's skin wherever the body touches the mattress, keeping the skin surface dry and comfortable. This added comfort and skin protection is especially important for people of all ages living with stage 1 to 4 pressure ulcers.

  • Premium cover: German-made 4-way stretch polyurethane (PU) leather with a quilted underside to reduce friction and skin shearing. Machine washable.
  • Skin-friendly: antimicrobial, biocompatible, anti-allergic and non-irritating. Free of latex, lead and mercury.
  • Breathable: the permeable material lets perspiration pass through the cover so the low air loss system can carry away moisture and body heat.
  • Airtight air cells: made of thermoplastic polyurethane (TPU) and nylon, heat-sealed with ultrasonic high-frequency welding.

FAQ

Is a bed frame included with the OB-1600?+

No. The bed frame is not included. The mattress measures 80" L x 36" W x 7" H, so please check that your bed frame fits this size before you order.

How much weight can the mattress support?+

The OB-1600 UtilityAir has a weight capacity of 450 lbs.

What therapy functions does this mattress have?+

It offers alternating pressure therapy, 15 LPM low air loss therapy, 15° self-lateral rotation, a sinking and centering feature, a Fowler (sitting-up) function and a sleep mode. Alternating cycles can be set to 10, 20, 30 or 40 minutes, and rotation cycles to 10, 20, 30, 40, 60, 90 or 120 minutes.

Can the top cover be washed?+

Yes. The 4-way stretch PU leather top cover is machine washable. It is also liquid-proof, fireproof, antimicrobial and free of latex, lead and mercury.

What warranty comes with the OB-1600?+

The top cover has a 1-year warranty, and the control unit and mattress system have a 2-year warranty.

We have a 30-day return policy, which means you have 30 days after receiving your item to request a return.
To be eligible for a return, your item must be in the same condition that you received it, unworn or unused, with tags, and in its original packaging. You’ll also need the receipt or proof of purchase. Restock fees will be deducted in amounts ranging from 15% to 25% of the value of the item being returned. The minimum restock fee on lower-value orders will be $15.

IBIS Wheelchair to Car Lift

The IBIS wheelchair to car lift was a game changer for us. My husband has been in a wheelchair for more than 40 years and we have never seen anything like this in the US and had no idea such a lift exist existed.

My guy is hemiplegic and usually able to stand pivot into the car but he broke his femur in November 2025 and had to be non-weight bearing for 3 months. He lost so much strength and ability that he could no longer do any kind of safe transfer.

Our friend found the IBIS wheelchair to car lift online and we decided to take the risk. It was worth every penny and more. Within a day of its arrival we were mobile and in and out of the car again. It is very manageable for me to operate and in our 60’s we are grateful for anything that lightens our load.
